How do you start a job well?

Sometimes you get an email that just makes you smile. 😆

Recently I had one of those days.
I opened up my inbox and saw this first line…
“Hi Katie! I have some really good news, I've just been offered a job!!”

But here’s the best bit.

Not only did they get a brilliant, purposeful job, but we’re only halfway through our time coaching together. We still have three sessions left!

Why is this so great?
Because now, we get to shift our focus from finding the job, to starting it well.

What does ‘starting well’ actually mean?

Well here’s what it’s not…
Leaping into something new, full of hope, only a month in to feel:
- Completely overwhelmed by how much you have to learn
- Exhausted from getting to know lots of new people
- Terrified that your boss is suddenly going to realise they made a mistake and shouldn’t have hired you.

I’ve certainly been there.

Starting well is the antidote to that. It’s about being intentional.

🌱 Starting Well is about giving yourself Permission. Permission to be yourself, to learn, to ask questions, make mistakes, improve. You don’t have to have all the answers and skills from day one.
🌱 Starting Well is about Awareness. It’s knowing your strengths, and what you might find challenging. It’s knowing there will be both great times and hard patches, and having a plan and tools to help manage them.
🌱 Starting Well is about Intention. It’s about learning from the past, but not letting it dictate your future. It’s choosing to write a new story. It’s knowing why you’re doing this, and the difference you want to make.

It’s a quiet shift from proving you’re enough, to knowing you already are.

So, here’s an interesting midweek question: What's one thing you wish you'd known, that would have helped you 'start well' in a new chapter of your life?
